in the dream, the ship would crash, and thngs would get really messed up. so, i would kind of rewind, i guess you'd call it that, and do something different, but no matter how many times i did this, something would still be messed up. crash, crash, crash. couldn't get it right.
and in reality, i've invited my parents for dinner tonight. my parents can't eat almost everything. my dad's a type II diabetic and my mom has celiac sprue which means if any gluten gets in anything i feed her, she gets horribly ill. and if it's one thing i learned when i was up in oregon with them last year, it's that gluten hides in the most unlikely places.
also, i can't cook. and chris was bitching that i should move the computer, scanner, printer, stereo, and various other crap off the nice dining table so we could show off how nice it is, (this will not happen, but i will have the stress of knowing he'll stress because it's not), and i will have to do some cleaning before they get here, as well as cooking ... something. but what?
i work till five. they get here at seven. crash, crash, crash.

these are probably gross, but here are some gluten-free recipes... good luck.
ooh! interesting recipes. hmm. actual recipes that call for kangaroo! hmmmmmmm....
i'm keeping it simple as possible, to avoid having the house on fire when they get there.
Oh, MAN! Good luck, kd. Sounds like way too much stress for me!
Backup plan: Tell your parents you've become a breatharian, and serve up some oxygen.
hey! everybody can eat oxygen!
oh man. i want so much to bolt out the door right now and get started, but my paycheck will already be soooo pathetic.
youcandothis. youcandothis. youcandothis.
take a deeeeep breath. now exhaaaaale.
it does NOT have to be PERFECT. they will still love you. spending the evening with you and kurtwood and chris is more important than if you vacuumed. REALLY.
ratty says: ENJOY YOURSELF!!
(*(*(*kd*)*)*)
Off topic: Those blurbs that you have revolving at the top of your page are the funniest things on the face of the planet. Especially the one about J. Edgar Hoover and oral-genital sex!
thanks! i do love that collection.
so far things are going ok. everyone's been fed, and my dad's cleaning out the porn spam off of his hotmail account on the other computer. 'sleazy seniors - horny older women' -- and others, but that one seems, er, unique.
he hasn't had internet on the road. there were 900 mails in his mailbox. spam sux!
so we're just a happy, well fed family, gathered around our computers and video games. crash bandicoot fills the living room with noise as we tap-type and click.
too much pressure! It's Friday kick back order a pizza, if you have to order it with crust only.
just had to see how the dinner went and it sounds like it went well. it also sounded yummier than what i had (chicken soup).
'twas a very nice evening. pretty good dinner, too, though might have been better had i not defrosted the chicken at the last minute with hot hot water. it was the only way -- but, still, it was ok.
i'm going to miss them when they go. *sigh* i'll get to see them one last time tomorrow, then sunday, they're gone.
I can tell you may be feeling a little ill. You better take the rest of the afternoon off because you really don't want whatever you have to spread to your co-workers.
How about a nice meal out. Nothing overly expensive, just something you don't have to prepare yourself. You could probably do a search to find out which foods are allowable, and make a restaurant choice based on that.
pizza -- no! flour = gluten. afternoon off -- no! i'm so broke! eating out -- no! i'm so broke!
i've given it careful thought. i've decided that chicken breasts on the george foreman grill with some frozen mixed veggies (i will thaw the veggies, don't worry) and, um, diet soda! that's high protien low carb and flour-free. and it's pretty hard to screw up chicken with the george foreman grill, even i can use that without burning the kitchen down.
*breathe, breathe* now i just have to figure out how to get the house looking presentable during the time of day that's usually my afterwork nap.
You know I'm getting stressed just thinking about this! Yeek!
And I would be dead if I had to go off glutens.
Man, does that sound like my house... the computer and peripherals are mine, and cause some of the mess around the place, and Natty stresses out over it. Glad it worked out for you. And I too like your "top blurbs"...
Hmm. Glad it turned out ok for you. It is difficult when you are having people over that have special dietary needs. I will give you a recipe for a nice seafood pasta (damn, doesn't pasta have gluten?). Anyway, let me know if you are interested. (Did I tell you that I am not too bad at cooking? I just hate when it becomes routine, like anything else in life that becomes routine!) Have a nice weekend.
Whew! Glad you updated us in your comments! I was worried til I figured I should check here. Food related allergy/illness type things worry me.
i was just crawling out of bed and preparing to upload photos.
all that cooking and all my mom ate was the rice. that's all. just rice. she's, like, too stubborn to eat a balanced diet, even when one is available i guess? i dunno. she's stubborn.
