Scott Ritter is an expert on Iraq's weaponry and the threat they pose to us. he is also a card-carrying Republican. and he says we ought not go to war.
"The clock is ticking," he said, "and it's ticking towards war. And it's going to be a real war. It's going to be a war that will result in the deaths of hundreds, if not thousands, of Americans and tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians. It's a war that is going to devastate Iraq. It's a war that's going to destroy the credibility of the United States of America. I just came back from London, and I can tell you this - Tony Blair may talk a good show about war, but the British people and the bulk of the British government do not support this war. The Europeans do not support this war. NATO does not support this war. No one supports this war."
It is of a certainty that few in the Muslim world support another American war with Iraq. Osama bin Laden used the civilian suffering in Iraq under the sanctions to demonstrate to his followers the evils of America and the West. Another war would exacerbate those already-raw emotions. After 9/11, much of the Islamic world repudiated bin Laden and his actions. Another Iraq war would go a long way to proving, in the minds of many Muslims, that bin Laden was right all along. The fires of terrorism that would follow this are unimaginable.

Are you mucking around with colors again? :)
Notice that Ritter was not invited to testify at the hearings? The MoveOn folks sent out a petition request, but apparently it fell on deaf ears.
i was going for clarity and less pinkness. should i put the pink back? i could put a very light version of it back. but i think i like the readability.
and it is indeed quite disturbing that Ritter, an expert on the topic if there ever was one, wasn't testifying.
I don't object to the color (or lack thereof); I was just surprised! ;)
that's me -- always full of surprises.
I don't see any fading to speak of, and at this hour the sun shines right through onto the screen, so I suspect it'll be ok for most. I also suspect you'll hear about it if it ain't ok! Grins...
the links should fade from pink to ... whatever this darker color is. not just switch colors. i may have to fix things up, but if i can't get onto a computer that sees the script working, i can't fix it.
i should find a script that works with NS7 and Mozilla, but i'm one of the only people i know who uses that, so .....
"My sense is that the balance has gone wrong lately and that the only face of America we see now is the one of military power, and it really frightens the world. . . . I understand that there is always a tension between security concerns and holding governments accountable for human rights. But if you focus on security alone and allow basic human rights violations in the name of security, then, well, as someone who grew up in America and went to law school there, I find that heartbreaking."
That's from Tom Friedman's column in today's NYT. It's a quote from a Sri Lankan lady. Friedman is one of the more clear-headed political observers around, in my judgment.
wAR, one of the greatest ways that mankind has been able to waste its resources, both in monetary and human terms!
and 60% of the people here think it's a good idea.
which isn't bad, there are 40% opposed, but our elected reps aren't really listening to that.
excellent link, Linkmeister.
