(note: i thought maybe the kid was futzing around in the CMOS on accident but on further consideration, i'm thinking, it just did this all by itself.)

and that machine was running WinME. ewww.

Partitions, partitions, partions...

...and everything worth a rip mirrored to the other machine!

*if* it was easy to move files over the network (this linux is ok about a file here or there, but not mass transfers) oh wait! if i'm dual boot, they should get along better. hopefully. and the next version should be better. it's out, but i haven't d/l the ISO just yet.

as it is, the old 8 gigger will have to do. in fact if my work gets all cheep about it, it may be that i end up with just the 8. oy.

naah. how could they do that to me?

Next time you try to start it, hold the gas pedal to the floor. You may have to crank on it for a while, but eventually it will unflood itself and then it will start.

Beautiful, Stacey, just perfect!

Hmmm. that doesn't sound good, kd. I hope you can figure that out, or haven't lost anything too terribly valuable...

Oh, crap!

so, what you're saying is, that really is bad? not just a little minor hiccupy type of thing?

Really, really bad...

This is on the Kurtwood's box, right?

yep. it's only the C drive, my pictures and files are on the D drive, but it boots from C.

i've been wanting to go dual boot anyway. now is probably a good time. i can take it to work and have most of the work (and parts) all taken care of.

the my documents folder lives on the D drive, has for a long time, since C was older and smaller and ... apparently weaker.

Oh, that is very, very good!

<exhale>

and, it's been all crashy lately, probably going bad for a long time, and totally time to clean house and start fresh.

i've never been one to lament the contents of a lost hard drive. oh maybe a little. but when i went linux, i totally wiped this machine. it was quite ... freeing.

i'll focus on the fresh start and not the wailing and gnashing of teeth that will greet my request to be provided a new hard drive.

i don't think we stock less than an 80 at work. heh.
