just in case anyone's looking for stacey, his site pretty much just vanished, and at the moment, we're looking all over for it. i've offered rescue and such, and we're just kind of waiting to see if his host has backups, and i must say he's taking all this rather well.

oh yeah. go back up your sites right now, ok?

update: stacey has a new home over on surreally.org: surreally.org/stacey. it'll be a subdomain in a few days, but right now it's running in just the directory.

we are still waiting to hear from his hosts about the request that they restore from the backups, so we can save his stuff and move it over here. eventually, we will get his URL to point at that subdomain.

i was wondering about that.

I'm soo bad about backing stuff up. My web host does it like, twice a day or something, but that's still no excuse for my own laziness. oy. Hope everything works out ok for Stacey.

Thank you for reminding me. Oy. Like I had to be told? It’s just shameful.

I have no idea how often my host backs up, I think it's only weekly :(
I just got done backing up my archives folder and some other odds and ends. Images are going to be a bitch since I'm on dial up.
You're a goddess for coming thru for Stacey, btw.

'twas the least i could do. i mean, this morning? his whole site, just -- empty. there are like tumbleweeds blowing through the server, and that's about it. i mean everything -- gone. all we can do is hope they'll be able to do a restore.

i did manage to nab his logo out of the google cache. i love the google cache.

Could this lame-ass be reminded how to do a backup, please? I remember doing it once before, but I can't figure out what I did. I looked at the help stuff in mt, and didn't see anything that was illuminating.

This is where I publicly declare my gratefulness and thankfulness to kd, who whipped up an MT page in about 23 seconds flat. It's still pretty plain, but I'll call in sick to work tomorrow and begin remodelling.

My old host (affordable host.com) says they do daily system backups, but will not restore individual webpages. Some lessons are learned the hard way...

"Will not restore individual webpages???" WTF? It ain't that hard to write a program looking for a specific domain name in a file of hundreds or thousands of them and output everything relating to that domain name to an itsy-bitsy file.

If that's their attitude, I strongly suggest anyone else thinking about hosting companies just bypass them altogether.

Ack, I hope the Spider is doing the backups. Very scary. I would hate losing my blog.

Much love, Stacey.

well, our hosts are pretty awesome in this respect. they not only do backups three times a day, they will restore -- even if a person were to accidentally delete two blogs, they restore that in a timeframe that the deletees never knew it happened. not that i ever did that. but you know.

but it's never, ever a bad idea to personally do an "export entries" and save the text file regularly. the most important thing to save is the words, and that does that, in a format that can be imported into another copy of MT and life can go on.

just to be on the safe side. there will be more info on the dot org support thingy, shortly.

eeek - thanks for the reminder - doing a backup burn right now.
