I myself have lived in a world remarkably free of color, meaning I never really had to take notice of it (how convenient for me). I went to a hippy-dippy granola school where everything was all “peace, love, smarts,” and then I went to college, where I learned to use the phrase “person of color” and “first-year student.” So I had some diversity street cred. And then I moved to Washington, D.C., and started discovering just how white I was.
