it just gets worse and worse. my personal email accounts aren’t that bad, the standard stuff, mortgages, penis/breast enlargement, toner supplies, viagra … annoying, but easily shrugged off, deleted, and dismissed.
not so my work address. for some reason it’s been largely overlooked by the ‘normal’ spammers, and instead, targeted by the most disgusting spammers on earth. look, i’m an open-minded person. but this stuff is beyond beyond. it involves … violence. and. and. animals. for awhile it was just a few lines of text on a bright background, and a link, but the last few days, they’ve started to include pictures. i know, i know, just don’t look, right? but it’s the sort of thing that catches your eye in a way that stuns you and you can’t help but see. in the split second or so before you manage to avert your eyes, things are burned into your brain, incomprehensible things.
i just don’t understand. does sending this stuff out get responses? do people go, oh, look, isn’t that hot, a dog and a girl? who the hell would find that sort of thing anything but repulsive? am i just a horrible prude, thinking this is beyond sick? what the hell is wrong with this world today?
Thanks to The Webhost That Will Not Do Its Job, I’ve stopped using mail at my domain pretty much for good… but yeah, I get like 90 spams a day in my hotmail account… they’re all about penis enlargement. Matt, on the other hand, gets all kinds of spam about breast enlargement.
Is that backward, or what?
And to add further weirdness, I have a friend who /collects/ those “nigerian bank account” spams.

I don’t get it, either, kd. Never once have I clicked on SPAM (sent by email or popup). The entire approach is completely unappealing and unenticing to me.

I think the point is that it’s degrading/sickening, which is a big point of a lot of fetishes (that collectively fall under the DSM definition of sadism/masochism if they’re severe/have sufficient ramifications).
Someone said that in regards to sex, if it’s possible to do, someone is doing it right now. If not, chances are someone has tried it anyway. I’d add to that that if it’s possible to do, someone is selling pictures on the net.

eh — i’m completely used to the 10 or 15 klez’s a day i get. it doesn’t even phase me. in fact, since i have linux, there’s nothing this klez can do to me but annoy me.
and it’s not even getting sent from infected computers as much as virus-bots that have harvested our surreally addresses. i took the email addys off the front page, but the damage, unfortunately, is done.
just don’t use the preview screen, and you will get to where you recognize them and can just zap ‘em.
As far as the Klez thing goes, we got norton anti-virus here and get a popup notifying us everytime we get a klez so we can delete it before opening it.
As for the spam, people/animal/rape and other porn is just really gross, and the one thing that pisses me off more than anything else is that a SPAMBOT STOLE OUR EMAIL ADDY!
Nothing like getting spam from yourself. Does anyone know how I can get them to stop. I went to spambusters, but it’s only for reporting spam, not for reporting spammers that are using your email address to send their spam.
those i can easily ignore. but i’m going bonkers over those klez-infested mails that keep pouring in. i feel so helpless.
