those trees

there is unrest in the forest, there is trouble with the trees …

you know, these things happen.

the trees — rush

There is unrest in the forest,
There is trouble with the trees,
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas.

The trouble with the maples,
And they’re quite convinced they’re right
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.

But the oaks can’t help their feelings
If they like the way they’re made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can’t be happy in their shade?

There is trouble in the Forest
And the creatures all have fled
As the Maples scream “Oppression!”
And the Oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights.
“The oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light.”

Now there’s no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe, and saw.

Bah…silly people. Can’t recognize a Rush reference when they hear it.

Rush has been known to channel Tolkien on occasion, so … maybe not in this song? but in general, so it’s sort of on topic.

besides, there are apparently oodles and oodles of people, who can think of this LOTR thing and pretty much nothing else.

which reminds me–the Ents are coming! [LOTR reference]

Oh my god, I immediately thought of Ents.
    Was I supposed to?
Off to see the Towers in just a bit – *squeal!*

Ahem. Not like I’m childishly excited or anything…

Which one of those guys is Treebeard?

Hmmm, Rush and Tolkien; two things I liked better as a kid.

Yes, I liked the movie, but I couldn’t go through the books again. There’s also a reason why Rush came out with a new album this year and no one bought it.

Tree’s have not been getting a kind cut for some time. The Golden Spruce story is like a hot poker in my heart. I can only imagine the pain Grant Hadwin was in to do such a thing. But hell, I never knew of the tree before reading that. It’s like losing an ancient relative you never knew. I mean over 300 years old, jeesh. Older than the US.
